The Second Wine of the supremely elegant, now Chanel-owned Margaux estate, Rauzan-Segla. Was it just the Chanel connection that made me feel the wines were utterly poised, and somehow feminine, when I visited them? They have an ethereal perfume; a violet-edged quality, wrapped around a powerful, graphite backbone with polished and supple tannins. The second wine is more approachable that the main bottling, very much drinkable now thanks to the use of less oak, but also age-able for another 10 years. (Not to mention a quarter of the price!)
